EXCLUSIVE: Vipin Sharma reveals auditioning for Hindi teacher role in Taare Zameen Par; talks about how Aamir Khan influenced his casting

Vipin Sharma is a talented Indian actor and filmmaker best known for his powerful performance in Taare Zameen Par (2007). In the film, he portrayed Nandkishore Awasthi, the strict father of Ishaan, a dyslexic child struggling with academic pressure. His emotionally intense role resonated with audiences, highlighting the societal expectations placed on children. Directed by Aamir Khan, Taare Zameen Par became a landmark film. Shedding light on the importance of understanding learning disabilities and nurturing a child’s unique potential.

In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Vipin shares about his first time acting on the big screen, “Mere liye mera sabse pehela experience acting ka mujhe itna shayad yaad nahi hai par mujhe yeh yaad hai ki jab. Taare Zameen Par kar raha tha, meri peheli film aur mai Aamir ke saath, jab mai set pe badi badi lights dekhi. Mujhe abhi bhi woh moment yaad hai ki mai khada tha aur maine bola, ‘Yaar yeh mai kaha pohoch gaya yeh kya ho gaya. I had never imagined I will be standing in front of a big Bollywood star.“

He continued, “ I will be working with him and I’ll be in a situation like this where there are big lights, Aamir, the entire unit. Mereko woh sabse zyda yaad hai ke how I just suddenly realised ki you’re doing something that you’ve always wanted to, you’re doing something you love doing toh woh film mujhe zyda yaad hai.”

Further speaking on how he even got the audition, he said, “mere selection ki peeche Aamir ka bada haath hai, Aamir selected me, aur mujhe yaad hai jab mai gaya tha, mile nahi the kabhi, audition dekha tha Aamir ne mera. Maine audition zabardasti diya tha, iske baare me bhi bohot baar bol chuka hu mai. Woh kya tha ki mai, Amol ke saath dosti thi meri pehele se, maine kuch baccho ko help kiya tha audition me, Amol ko usme Darsheel bhi tha. 10 bacche joh final chune gaye the usme 2-3 baccho ke saath maine father ka role padha tha tha.

He continued, “ Toh maine Amol se pucha ki yeh role kya hai toh usne bol ki yaar yeh role thoda alag mamla hai, Aamir will cast it and you probably are good for the Hindi teacher character and warden. Toh maine woh dono audition kiye the, actually audition maine yeh dono character ka kiya tha, maine Amol ko bola ki yeh father wala role ka audition karne de. Mujhe pata nahi tha kuch bhi, script ke baare me nahi pata tha, puri script nahi pata thi and he was very generous ki theek hai karle.”

He further stated, “Toh mai raat ko 2:30-3 baje prepare karke agle din office pohoch gaya Aamir ke, koi nahi tha waha, toh maine kisi ek assistant ko bola ki mera ek audition kardo. Toh usne bola ki sir yeh role toh aap nahi karoge phir maine bola request karke liya hai audition mujhe karne do, maine kiya woh assistant thi Ritu usne ek baar dekha aur usne bol sir aap accha kar rahe ho aapko pata hai, thodasa ek baar aur karlo aap, maine ek baar aur kar liya aur bhul gaya. Mujhe baad me pata laga ke Sunil, ek assistant the uss samay, Taare Zameen Pe, he said ki sir aapka audition Aamir sir ne galti se dekha tha, matlab unko dikhana nahi tha par unke saamne pad gaya toh unhone pucha yeh kaun hai, toh that’s how I was cast.”
